The short version
Topline doesn't collect, sell, or send your data anywhere. There are no analytics, no tracking, and no accounts.
What stays on your Mac
- Topline reads what's playing from the Spotify or Music app on your Mac and sends them play, pause, skip and volume commands.
- Your bar position, timer length and preferences are stored in your Mac's local settings.
- Focus sessions longer than a minute are stored in a file on your Mac. That file is not uploaded.
- If you connect a Spotify account, the login token is stored in your Mac's Keychain.
- If you turn on key sounds, Topline listens for key presses so it can play a sound. It only notes the kind of key (a letter, space, return, or delete). It does not save or send what you typed. macOS asks for Input Monitoring.
Spotify (optional)
If you choose to connect Spotify, Topline talks directly to Spotify's servers to like songs, follow artists, list your playlists and devices, and start playback. That data goes only between your Mac and Spotify, under Spotify's privacy policy. You can disconnect at any time from the bar's right-click menu.
The Mac App Store version of Topline does not include Spotify login. Playback controls still work through the Spotify app on your Mac.
Album art
Album artwork is downloaded from Spotify's image servers or read from the Music app to color the bar.
